Newcastle Brown Ale was created and launched in 1927 by Lieutenant Colonel Jim Porter after three years of secret recipe development in Newcastle upon Tyne.
The Creator, Jim Porter, an assistant brewer and war veteran, wanted a smooth, strong bottled beer for local workers. It became a favourite drink for coal miners and shipyard workers across North East England.
