Antique Wooden Hand Painted French Cheese Box / Fromager / Garde Manger & Board

A beautifully decorative, tabletop French cheese box (also known as a Fromager or Garde Manger) and a cheese board.
The cheese box would typically have been used for storing and aging cheese and features mesh sides for ventilation, a cord carry handle and an internal shelf. The sliding lift up front panel depicts a beautiful scene from the fable "The Fox & The Crow" by La Fontaine and reads from a banner hanging from the tree 'La cage aux fromage' which translates to 'The cheese cage'. The beautiful painted scene is made up from bright, bold colours and detailing.
The scene can also be found on the cheese board, however the banner reads differently and is 'Les fromages' which translates to 'Cheese' and has a carry handle in the centre. The cheese would have been presented on the board to family and friends to be enjoyed.
They are both a lovely size to sit tabletop and will add a character and charm to any setting. Ideal for a country style kitchen as displayed on a dresser or sideboard. Would also look great in a cafe, rustic farmhouse or displayed at a fresh cheese stand in a farm shop.

Condition: Very nice useable order. Cheese board has slight damage to one side but does not effect the use.
