Antique Wooden Go To Bed Match Holder & Striker 19th Century Treen Box

An antique wooden "go to bed", a 19th century bedside or desktop accessory.

Crafted from wood, this cylinder container stores matches within, has a striker on the bottom for lighting the matches and a small hole on the lid for holding the lit match. 

The match would be placed here as before electric lighting in the 19th century, people used this to safely carry the flame through a dark house. They would then light a bedroom candle before going to sleep. 

A lovely little treen item, this is a great collectors item or can be used to store matches fireside and act as a decorative item also on a fireplace or sideboard.
