Antique Victorian Veterinary Vets Medicine Chest for Livestock Day Son & Hewitt

A fascinating and rare Victorian veterinary medicine chest manufactured by the renowned veterinary suppliers Day, Son & Hewitt of London & Wantage

Dating to the Victorian era, this chest was produced as an “Original Stockbreeders Medicine Chest”, designed specifically for farmers and stockbreeders to treat common illnesses and issues in livestock.

The wooden case opens to reveal a sectioned interior with labeled glass medicine bottles, each originally containing remedies used in 19th-century veterinary practice. Examples include bottles labeled “Gaseous Fluid” and “Broncholine,” typical treatments used historically for digestive and respiratory issues in animals such as horses and cattle.

Medicine chests of this type were essential tools for farmers before widespread access to veterinary surgeons, allowing them to administer treatments directly in the field. The original typography remains on the front of the box and on the inside of the lid.

A perfect item for collectors or to display in a home or retail space adding character. A very interesting piece.

Dimensions: 46.5cm X 27cm // Height 15cm
