Antique Victorian Mahogany Adjustable Gents Shaving Stand / Makeup Mirror
Circa 1880
A nice quality English antique shaving stand from the Victorian period.
Manufactured from solid mahogany, with a brass column leading up to the adjustable angled mirror.
There is wooden threaded peg, set within the small turned column, that can be loosened to allow the mirror to be raised up or down - This threaded peg should then tighten again to lock it in place but I cant get it to work so will need a bit of attention if you wish to be able to adjust the mirror height.
Below, the stand features a turned tabletop, which can rotate interdependently from the mirror and includes two internal compartments, accessed by a lid on either side. The tabletop sits atop a ring turned and carved column, terminating with a reverse finial. The column is supported by the original splayed scroll legs.
Although originally designed as a shaving stand, it would serve well as a makeup stand too.
The unit stand freely with no wobbles and breaks down into sections for easier movement.
Couple of small knocks and chips to the wood (see pictures)
Height 168cm
Diamater 44cm
