Registration mark to the base dates this to 1878.
A Victorian era ceramic memoranda pad / desktop note block. The sloped wedge shape features the word "Memoranda" at the top, along with decorative accents.
The ceramic piece features a black border where the middle rectangle section was left unglazed / a matte finish to create a textured surface that allowed lead or graphite pencil to be written directly on. This would then be rubbed away with either a pencil eraser or damp cloth.
The bottom of the ceramic block features the design registration diamond - also known as a kitemark.
Blocks like this were often found in an office, desktop sat, kitchen or hallway.
They now make a lovely decorative piece, paperweight or collectors item.

Condition: Good order. No major damages. A few chips on the underside of the base. Please see last image. Crazing.
