Housed in its original wooden box, this portable field kit was designed for the analysis of soil conditions, including acidity (pH) and nutrient availability. An interesting feature of the set is its use of barium sulphate to clarify soil samples, reflecting the scientific methods of the time.
The case opens to reveal a well-organised interior containing glass test tubes, chemical reagents, distilled water bottles and a printed colour reference chart used to compare and determine soil composition. These components highlight the kit’s role as a functional piece of early agricultural and scientific equipment.
Adding to its appeal, this example also includes the original manual for the kit, along with handwritten notes, recordings / reference material from its original user - offering a glimpse into its practical, real world use.
Both an intriguing collector’s item and a striking display piece, this kit would appeal to collectors of scientific instruments, agricultural history or vintage science equipment. A great gift idea.
