Antique Mid 20th Century Kay Dry Powder Pigment Paint Box / Artists Set in Box
Mid 20th Century c.1950
A mid century Kay Paint Box, manufactured in England by Kay (Sports & Games) Ltd. c.1950. This art set is a great find for collectors of vintage toys, retro art supplies or 20th century items. These sets were likely produced as part of the brands children's activities and indoor games line.
The set has its original red cardboard box with its original contents, including 12 glass jars filled with dry paint pigments, original green paper labels, a small wooden mixing spoon and all four metal paint pallet trays.
The set also has an instruction leaflet originally for "Powdrex Water Paints" - a rival line of dry student watercolour powders. As loose powder paints were highly common during the mid 20th century, and both Kay Paint Box and the Powdrex paints would have been used the same, the original owner likely kept this leaflet in the box for convenience and future reference of use.
The leaflet features period graphics and details instructions within, showing an insight to how these paints were used.
All 12 glass jars have the original metal screw caps, green labels and some contents within - Some are partially used some a more full.
A wonderful item, bursting with charm and character. A lovely display piece, collectors item or piece to study and display for fellow artists and painters.
Dimensions of box: 29cm x 20cm
Condition: Good with signs of use all over.
