A beautiful antique Mauchline ware souvenir photo album which is made from wood with transfer printed images and brass clasp.
The album is Scottish Mauchline treen showcases the lovely warm tone throughout. On the front it features black scrollwork accents in the corner and a central oval transfer printed photograph with the words "A Memorial of Stirling - 'Gray Stirling, Bulwark of the North'." along the bottom. On the back is a further central oval image.
The album includes photography images of single and family portraits. Next to some of the images are the printed information on photography studios, including Elliott & Son which was a prominent professional photography studio located at 32 High street, Tunbridge Wells Kent during the Victorian era.
The wording on the front "A Memorial of Stirling - 'Gray Stirling, Bulwark of the North'." originates from the 19th century poem Old Streamline by the Scottish poet James Hogg and is a description of Stirling Castle located in Scotland.
Mauchline Ware were popular souvenir pieces during the 19th century and this album would have likely been purchased by someone visiting Scotland on holiday and brought home to fondly remember their travels.
