Antique Glasgow Evangelistic Association Tent Hall Collection Offering Box c1930

An early 20th Century papier mache charity money box in the shape of a loaf of bread. 

The front bears the inscription "Tent Hall Free Breakfast" and the underside features the original label reading "Glasgow United Evangelistic Association" along with their registered address and details for the box holders name and details to be written. 

The charity box was used to collect money donations to fund the daily mission of providing a Tent Hall breakfast club where thousands of vulnerable working class citizens and children would attend for a free meal. 

The box was often placed in public spaces encouraging donations or given to children in church groups and Sunday schools for them to use and receive donations from family, friends and neighbours. 

The detailed design and shape of the loaf of bread was used to remind and make it visually clear what donations would be used for - bread and hot food for the hungry.

A great collectors item, would look great among several collection boxes or used as home decor in a kitchen or cafe.
