Antique French Hand Carved Wooden Pair Architectural Figures / Pillars / Columns
Late 19th Century
In a 'gothic' French style, these intricate, hand carved oak pillars are versatile and bring with them a wealth of unknown history. Having been used to embellish and add character to furniture in the 19th century, this pair would have likely been found on a four poster bed, sideboard or cabinet or added to beams within a grand home.
These columns are designed with a variety of motifs and features, with curved arches and symmetric patterns. The pillars are created with the centre point being of a man, dressed in traditional 19th century clothing sitting with his arms looped round the archway. With a shocked expression on his face, this figure is carved to a very high standard and shows an immense amount of detailing.
These features can now be used in a variety of different settings, adding a huge amount of character and talking points to your home. These would be perfect wall hung, added to a staircase / banister or incorporated back into a piece of furniture.
