Edgar Bergen and his puppet Charlie McCarthy were superstars of the late 1930s and 40s appearing in TV, film and movies with their amusing ventriloquist act.
this dummy made by the 'The Reliable Doll Company, of Canada(1920-1991) was modelled on the original Charlie McCarthy and consists of a fully operational working draw string operated jaw, composition head, cloth body with clothing and a completely original unrestored hand painted face.
Most Charlie McCarthy dolls found are of a later age. This particular dummy is an early example before they upgraded the design and then used it as a template for other dummies such as the Howdy Doody ventriloquist dummy of the 50s.
Complete complete on a stand for display.
