Antique Coromandel Wood Dressing & Vanity Box with Sterling Silver Fittings, Writing Slope, and Jewellery Compartment – Hallmarked 1862

An exceptional Antique Coromandel Wood Dressing and Vanity Box, dating to c.1862, complete with its full set of sterling silver-topped bottles and accessories, all beautifully preserved and finely crafted.

Each silver lid is engraved in typical Victorian style with what appears to be a family crest symbol of a lion to the centre - The coromandel wooden case has the exact same crest engraved into the central inset plaque to the lid.

This luxurious Victorian box exemplifies the craftsmanship and opulence of the mid-19th century. The exterior is in striking high quality coromandel wood - a richly figured exotic hardwood prized for its dark, elegant grain—and fitted with engraved brass mounts & hinges, a exception brass lock escutcheon and strung brass detailing. The box retains a working lock and key. These features are clearly over the top in detail and lends itself to clearly an at time wealthy point of sale.

Opening the lid reveals a fully fitted interior, housing a collection of cut glass bottles and jars, each with a sterling silver lid hallmarked for London, 1862, and bearing the silversmith mark of T.W. A brass push buttons at the back of the box releases the base drawer which revels a leather topped writing surface - Beneath this is a cleverly concealed jewellery compartment.

A true example of Victorian ingenuity and taste, combining both traveling vanity and writing functions in one exquisitely made case.
