Antique Arcade Coin-Operated Penny Machine – “Jet Play” by Oliver Whales c.1954 – Vintage Fairground Game
A superb example of mid-century British amusement engineering, this “Jet Play” coin-operated penny machine was manufactured by Oliver Whales Ltd around 1954. A true classic of seaside arcades and fairgrounds, this rarely seen example evokes the golden age of post-war entertainment.
Constructed with a sturdy metal and oak & glazed cabinet, the game features vivid period graphics and mechanical gameplay typical of 1950s arcade design. Players insert an old penny to test their skill and luck — a nostalgic reminder of simpler times.

Condition: Good vintage condition and in working order. The case has been later varnished and shows typical age patina. Glass all in good order with no cracks. Locks and keys are later replacements, as is the top flash. Cash box cover is a later made replacement. Bottom plinth has an edge cut off from when it has likely been flush to a wall or another arcade unit. Mechanically sound and in really clean working order. Original back board.
