Antique Apothecary Vapo-Cresolene Vaporizer Set / Night Lamp Original Box c.1900
A late 1800's to early 1900's Vapo-Cresolene vaporizer set which was sold and promoted to treat respiratory issues by heating and vaporising Cresolene overnight.
The apparatus is made up of a decorative meal stand with a clear glass lamp which is embossed with "CRESOLENE" and a metal dish at the top. The original box includes branding typography to all sides along with an image of the equipment in use with vapour being emitted.
On the side of the box is the full "Directions For Use" which would have been followed to safely use the vaporiser. The directions explain how the lamp should be filled with Kerosene oil and lit, allowing a large flame. The movable cup at the top should be filled with Cresolene and allowed to be vaporised in a bedroom overnight. It was advised that doors and windows should be kept shut for efficient treatment. Antiseptic vapours were believed to be created, treating issues such as Whooping Cough, Asthma, Bronchitis and Croup - as advertised along the top of the box.
The box is full of further information and detailing and each side should be viewed and studied to fully appreciate.
With the bold black writing and imagery against the mustard colour background, the original box is eye-catching and a great accompaniment to the vaporiser.
An excellent collectors item to showcase along with other apothecary pieces or science related items. Will look fantastic displayed in a cabinet or shelf adding decor and character to any space. Would also look brilliant in a shop window or display in a pharmacy or apothecary setting.
