Antique Apothecary Ferris & Co 19th Century Mahogany Cabinet of Dispensing Tins
Antique Apothecary Ferris & Co 19th Century Mahogany Cabinet of Dispensing Tins
Antique Apothecary Ferris & Co 19th Century Mahogany Cabinet of Dispensing Tins
Circa 1890
Manufactured by Ferris & Co of Bristol, UK.
An open front mahogany storage cabinet containing all of the original 16 storage tins.
Each tin is painted in the stunning bright green colour with printed advertising wording for the Ferris & co brand.
This is the large sized example of the units made by Ferris & co and holds two different sized tins.
The tins were used for surgical dressings - The revers side of the tin are the paper labels allowing the user to easily & quickly identify what tin holds what. All but one paper label is still present and legible which is quite amazing after all the years of use in what would be a very busy environment.
As seen in the Victorian 1899 apothecary diaries book - Basically a catalogue of advertising & products sent to pharmacy’s to purchase from and use as a diary.
This fantastic and rare example would have sat counter top in a local pharmacy or surgery.
The maker's trade label is inset below the drawer.
A must have for any apothecary collector.
