A promotional item for Lewis's department store - a British chain founded in 1856.
The brush features black bristles on one side, a wooden handle and back. On the back of the brush it reads "Wear Lewis's Splendid Hats" which was a promotional phrase stamped onto brushes which were kept in store or given as a promotional giveaway. This was a standard practice of the time to bear the stores name and encourage brand loyalty.
The crescent shape of the wooden handle was specifically designed to glide over the brim and crowns of top hats and bowlers without causing any snags or damage.
