Antique Advertising - Spratt's enamel Metal Dog Water / Food Bowl c.1930
Early to mid 20th century advertising
A lovely collectable item, this Spratt's advertising bowl features blue lettering on a white background and reads "Spratt's - Spratt's Patent Ltd. Made in England".
It's a lovely piece of history relating to a well recognised dog & cat food production company. Bowls like this were issued as an advertising item to either be given to customers as a gift with purchase or to be displayed out the front of a shop with water in for four legged friends to enjoy while promoting the brand. These bowls would have been a regular sighting outside pet shops, grocery shops and convince stores.
The Spratt's company was founded in 1860 by James Spratt and is considered the first large-scale commercial pet food company. The initially launched and specialised in dog biscuits. In the early 1900s, Spratt's operated the largest dog food factory in the world and expanded its range to include cat and bird food.
A wonderful collectors item to be added to a display or to add characterful decor to a country style kitchen, farmhouse interior or within a retail space such as an independent pet shop or dog groomers.
