A rare antique advertising shop display / dispensing container for Mackintosh's Chocolate, an excellent piece of vintage confectionery advertising and retail memorabilia.
A wonderfully nostalgic item with plenty of character, originally designed for use within a sweet shop, confectionery counter or general store to advertise and dispense Mackintosh's chocolate products.
The container features the distinctive Mackintosh's branding - Lithographed tin with hinged rear lid and glass front viewing panel.
Mackintosh's chocolate and confectionery history began in 1890 when John and Violet Mackintosh opened a pastry shop in Halifax, West Yorkshire, where they invented "Mackintosh's Celebrated Toffee. In 1920 John Mackintosh dies and his son Harold Mackintosh takes over as chairman, renaming the firm John Mackintosh & Sons Ltd. This piece marked just 'Mackintosh's' likely means it predates 1920.
A great decorative item that would look particularly effective displayed in a kitchen, shop, café, home bar, study or collection of advertising antiques.

Condition - Good antique order. Scuffs and scratches typical of age and use. A small solder repair has come away around the hinge area - still useable as it is. I believe it is a later added handle.
