This charming antique Reynolds & co. pottery match holder and striker is a fine example of classic stoneware advertising.
Used to hold matches, it was designed to advertise A. Reynolds & co., a hotel bar fitting company who operated in the early 1900's. This match stick holder / striker would have sat countertop in a bar, pub or restaurant to advertise the company and increase exposure to encourage business.
It features a green marble effect base to hold used matches, stoneware cup to hold unused matches and has the advertising words around the bottom rim which has a cream background.
Ideal as a unique display piece or for use in a period-inspired setting, it adds a touch of character to any home or collection. Perfect to hold matches still, the piece would look great upon a mantle, fireplace, sideboard or table for ease of lighting fires and candles.
