A mid century advertising biscuit tin from the renowned British biscuit makers Peek Frean & Co of London.
The charming “Budgie Collectors” tin features colourful bird imagery, celebrating the popularity of budgies during the period and appealing to both biscuit lovers and bird enthusiasts alike.
The lid has three budgies sitting on branches, the birds are in striking blue, yellow and green colours complimenting the pink colour of the tin. Surrounding the outer edge of the biscuit base are a variety of different images or budgies in different colours.
Originally produced to hold Peek Frean’s biscuits, the tin would have been a favourite of consumers. Keen to have the well recognised biscuits and collect the characterful tin for future use storing small household items.
Founded in 1857 in London, Peek Freeman become a hugely recognised manufacturer known as "Biscuit Town" and was famous for creating the Garibaldi, Bourbon and Twiglet. The company revolutionised the mass production of confectionery and biscuits before closing its main factory in 1989.
The tin is base marked with the makers name and registered address.
