Antique Advertising - Original London 1950s Westminster Bridge Warning Ice Sign
Circa 1958
A mid 20th century paint on board London Westminster Bridge used Ice breaking warning sign.
Manufactured for use over winter months to warn people about the dangers of breaking the ice - Likely in parks or on the River Thames.
Anyone caught breaking the ice could risk getting fined up to £5.
The sign was produced at time when L.A. Huddart was the Chief Officer of the London County Council Parks Department in the mid-20th century. Most notable for his role in transforming the South Bank site ear Westminster Bridge into public green spaces and gardens. He worked on integrating the landscape planning with projects across the River Thames during the post-war redevelopment and the Festival of Britain era.
The last time the river Thames froze over was in 1963 so this sign could very likely have been used during this period too along the river front.
A great piece of rare London memorabilia, perfect for any sign collection or London home.
