A late Victorian / Edwardian four drawer tabletop haberdashery shop storage chest.
Crafted as a point of sale display for a general store or haberdashery, this unit features a beautifully distinct scalloped top pediment displaying its advertising sign reading "The Original H.W. Velvet Cap" and "Cushion Button Shoe" right below.
In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, high top button shoes were the height of fashion. Cabinets like this were provided to local stores and haberdashery settings to serve as an advertising piece and storage element. The drawers were specifically designed to hold stock for replacement shoe buttons and metal shoe button hooks.
The chest features four sliding drawers, each featuring the original brass pull handles and label inserts for labelling. Inside, the drawers are sectioned into three smaller compartments offering versatile storage space.
An ideal piece for collectors or anyone looking for versatile storage with a charming piece. Would look great in a sewing room, haberdashery setting or hobby room and used for storing tools, equipment, stationery and small objects.
