Antique Advertising Macfarlane Lang Co Biscuit Stand Confectionery Shop Display

C.1890

A rare and exceptional Victorian biscuit display stand (biscuiteer), produced for the famous Macfarlane Lang & Co., one of Britain’s most renowned 19th-century biscuit manufacturers.

This beautifully made tiered shop display stand would have originally proudly sat countertop on a confectionery or grocer’s counter, showcasing and promoting the company’s popular biscuits and sweets. The stand is crafted from wood and features original painted lettering and decorative detailing, proudly bearing the Macfarlane Lang & Co. name.

The lower tin is bold in colour with its blue background and yellow lettering and detailing. The clear top would have allowed shoppers to see the variety of biscuits on offer and select their desired ones. The upper tin is a Christmas special tin in the traditional red festive colour. This tin has a variety of detailed imagery of the festive times, including a group of people dancing around a Christmas tree, a snow covered cottage and a festive holly.

Macfarlane, Lang & Co was established by James Lang in 1817 as Langs bakery before be renamed Macfarlane, Lang & Co in 1841. It later went on to form United Biscuits with Mcvitie and Price.

An extremely desirable piece of Victorian advertising history, perfect for collectors of early confectionery memorabiliashop fittings or antique kitchen and pantry displays. Would look especially striking in any retro style shop, sweet shop and country style kitchen!

Dimensions: 28cm x 48.5cm x Height 38cm

Condition: - Very nice antique condition. Stands freely and solid. Typical age related wear to the tins.
