The Hodgson and Simpson factory was established in about 1818 and manufactured Soap in Wakefield until 1899 when they were taken over by Lever Brothers. The Factory ceased manufacturing in in the early 20th century.
This Jar is made of Clear Glass with Acid etched lettering. The lid Has Hodgson and Simpson Limited and the side Has Sweet May Toilet Soap.
Likely made for use within an apothecary store to sit counter top dispensing the toilet soaps from.
