Antique Advertising – E. Wolff & Son of London Pencil Shop Counter Display Cabinet
C.1870
A highly collectable Victorian shop counter display cabinet by E. Wolff & Son of London, renowned makers of quality pencils and artists’ materials. This characterful advertising piece would have originally sat on a retailer’s counter, designed to display the Royal Sovereign Co pencils while promoting the Wolff name.
E. Wolff & Son was founded in 1796 with a factory in Neasden, London. There were three separate factories at the time: Aurther Johnson, E. Wolff, and Royal Sovereign. Two closed and consolidated to The Royal Sovereign Co. which moved to Wales in 1947. This factory was later taken over and closed in 2009 by Staedtler of Germany.
The cabinet features a three tier glazed display section to the front, with storage drawers to the rear for additional stock.
Included are a selection of old pencils.
The aged ebonised pine wood, original fittings, and period advertising sign-writing make it a standout example of early commercial display furniture.
26.5cm X 31cm // Height 64cm
Condition:
Good antique condition, with just minor age-related wear, surface marks, and patina consistent with use. The glazing is intact, the drawers function as intended.
