A rare and highly collectable antique advertising set featuring a charming Chad Valley ‘Spratt’s Patent’ cuddly dog toy, complete with original attached tags, and accompanied by two delightful promotional cushions fashioned as Spratt’s food bags — one for cat food and one for dog food.
The dog toy was produced by Chad Valley, one of Britain’s most respected early toy makers, and carries the coveted ‘Spratt’s Patent’ advertising connection to Spratt's, pioneers of commercial pet food in the UK. Both brands are exceptionally sought after by collectors of antique toys and advertising memorabilia.
This cuddly toy is an incredibly rare find, especially in this condition and with tag. I believe this was a promotional toy that you was required to collect and send off coupons to receive - Although the label on the back of the tag refers to the dog as 'Spatts Bonio', I believe the dogs name was 'Sleepy'.
The accompanying novelty cushions, designed in the form of vintage Spratt’s cat and dog food bags, make a wonderful display grouping and perfectly complement the toy.
