A highly characterful mid to early 20th century antique advertising glass window pane salvaged from an Apothecary chemist shop with etched in wording and hand painted in the typical blue and red colours.
Apothecary shops traditionally used red and blue colours in large window show globes and signs as a universal symbols to identify the chemist to an illiterate public. Historically, the colours denoted arterial and venous blood, while the vibrant liquids themselves demonstrated the pharmacist's skill in compounding chemicals.
The glass pane it etched with the wording dispensary which is hand painted in blue
It also features a depiction of an etched in carboy dispensary jar painted in red.
The pane comes in a wooden frame with wall brackets so it is ready to wall hang.
A great piece to sit amongst an apothecary bottle collection or for anyone with an interest in old adverting pieces.
