Antique Advertising - 1930s W. H. Smith Glass Lightbox Sign on Original Bracket
C.1930
A rare and striking 1930s double sided Lightbox shop sign used by W.H. Smith, featuring a beautifully hand-painted image of a classic newsboy on glass.
This authentic piece of retail history would have once illuminated the storefront, capturing the attention of passersby with its charming period illustration.
The glass panels are housed within its original Lightbox frame, designed to be backlit for eye-catching visual impact.
The iconic W. H. Smith newsboy emblem was designed for Smith’s in 1905 by the artist Septimus E. Scott (1880-1966). Scott went on to design railway posters and illustrations including for other well-known brands such as Rowntree and Wincarnis.
The Lightbox is still on its original cast iron wall bracket which has the functional strength for hanging. The bracket also features the W.H.S logo within the right-angle of the bracket painted in white.
An evocative and nostalgic piece of signage, rich in character and ideal for collectors, decorators, or retail display.
