Confectioners during the interwar period frequently designed ornate, novelty-shaped tin boxes with functional features. This intentional design encouraged consumers to reuse the packaging as sewing baskets or storage boxes once the toffees were eaten, which is exactly why so many have survived today and became a real collectors delight.
The Blue Boy toffees were produced by George W. Horner & Co. Ltd who was one of the most prominent names in the golden age of British confectionery, renowned for producing "the sweetest thing on Earth" out of their factory in Chester-le-Street, County Durham.
