Antique 20th Century Victorian Wooden Secret Masonic Ballot Box / Voting c.1920
Early 20th Century
A rare 20th century secret Masonic ballot box, a unique piece of history, typical of those used within Masonic lodges during the the early 20th century. These boxes played an essential role in lodge proceedings, enabling members to cast votes in complete secrecy.
Crafted in solid wood, the box features a circular hole to the front, through which members would discreetly deposit a ball or bead. Beneath are two pull-out drawers, lined with felt, used to separate and count the votes: typically white balls for acceptance and black balls for rejection.
The drawers are fitted with small brass knobs, adding both practicality and subtle decorative detail. The design reflects the functional yet ceremonial nature of Masonic furniture of the period.
Dimensions: 24cm x 21.5cm x Height 26.5cm
Condition: Good order with no damages. Minor surface scuffs.
