Antique 19th Century Metal Brass Fob Watch Holder in Snake / Serpent Form c.1880
Late 19th Century - c.1890
A beautiful and highly detailed brass fob watch holder in the form of a snake. The snakes tail is coiled round, with its neck and head lurching up in a 'striking' position. The tongue is out in a typical snake manner and acts as the holder for the fob watch to hang from a chain. The snake offers great detailing with etchings and imprints to create the scales and a red feature for the eye (please note it is unclear what material the 'red' in the eye is, this could be a stone or glass).
This piece includes the fob watch but is not working and is solely there for display purposes.Â
Brass is an excellent metal and, as seen with this piece, is known for its bright gold-like appearance. It is an appealing and durable metal creating a sturdy decorative piece.Â
This item would look fantastic on display in any home, particularly favoured in a dressing room, bedroom (bedside table) or office /study. The piece would be greatly appreciated by any collector or watch enthusiast to hang their best pocket watch from.Â
