Antique Masonic Liberty Hall & Strict Lodge Rotating Sign Philanthropic Lodge

An original Masonic rotating sign associated with the Philanthropic Lodge (lodge number 5321) Leeds, UK.

The rich wooden oak stand has lighter writing on both sides, creating a rich eye-catching contrast.

This type of sign is designed to rotate, displaying different messages. One side reads LH (standing for 'Liberty Hall') and the other reads SO (standing for 'Strict Order').

When LH (Liberty Hall) was displayed this would indicate a less formal or social gathering of Masons. Members would likely be meeting at a relaxed social event or less formal discussion and members were encouraged to act with freedom.

When SO (Strict Order) was displayed this would indicate a formal / official meeting. This would be displayed during formal meetings, ceremonies or when official business was being discussed. It ensured members acted respectfully and followed the established rules of Freemasonry.

A highly collectible item, ideal for Masonic memorabilia collectors, historians or as a striking decorative object in an interior, study or display space.

Dimensions: 30.5cm x 15cm x Height 43cm

Condition: Good condition. Stands freely. Rotates as it should. Varnished. With minor surface wear and marks.

Item No. 8467
