Antique Gothic Revival Oak Cabinet Cupboard & Minton Art Pottery Tiles c.1875
Circa 1875
An amazing large sized oak storage cabinet in typical Gothic Revival manner.
The rectangular cabinet with two hinged doors, each set with a tile, inside geometric borders - ebonised and gilded.
The inset tiles are by Minton's Art Pottery - Depicting Cricket and Boating scenes, from the Old English Sports and Games Series.
Minton’s Art Pottery Studio was set up in Kensington Gore in 1871 and specialised in the hand painting of pottery and tiles. Sadly, the studio burned down in 1875 so they only produced this type of tile for a very short period - A set of 8 of these tiles sold for £2000 at auction in March 2020.
The unit has a top pieced rail design, one single adjustable internal shelf and rests upon ceramic castors.
A true statement piece to sit on any sideboard space or even to be wall hung.
